#870 Are you a Force of Nature?

“This is the true joy in life, being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one. Being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.” George Bernard Shaw

I’ve read this quote hundreds of times.  I’ve tried to imprint it on my soul.  I’ve striven to live by it and let me tell you why.  It isn’t, believe it or not, for “The true joy in life.”  Part.  Instead, it’s the inspiration of thinking of myself as “A force of nature.” AND avoiding, at all costs, becoming a “Feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.”

I often think about self-indulgence, not the Rocky Road ice cream kind, but the kind that filters all the worlds goings-on through a sieve call SELF; the kind that decides to insert one’s own feelings regardless of the influence it may have on the group.

We all feel disconcerted from time to time.  We all see things that are amiss in our workplaces, families, and friendships.  Some of us can take that magnificent, self-defining pause, and consider the outcome our actions and words may produce and some of us are self-indulgent, giving in to the feelings and embarking on the actions and remarks because it feels good to do it.

Some of us understand that happiness is an inside job and that the world, regardless of its devotion, will never make us truly happy.

Look in the mirror and ask this aloud of yourself right now; Do I want to be a force of nature, or would I rather be s a selfish clod of ailments and grievances?  Then proceed into the world today.
