#1043 Imagination vs. WIllpower
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY HANDSOME SON-IN-LAW, MIKE WHO IS WONDERFULLY SUCCESSFUL IN HIS SALES GIG
Imagination Vs. Willpower
My coach, Amazing Jane Atkinson, told me that she used to think that mindset was 50% of success. She’s now convinced that mindset is 100%, and I drink her Kool-Aid daily. In fact, I wish I could bottle it and add a few ingredients to make a purgative solution that would rid us of negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, and narrow views.
Jane once had me engage in an exercise I prescribe to my coaching clients and offer to you now.
Imagine your perfect day. Write it out in detail from waking up until going to bed. I know that there is no single ideal day. Vacation days are different from workdays and weekends; early careers are different from mature ones, retirement, and so on. However, pick a time in your lifeline and write it out. Mine, for example, is about a perfect day as a professional speaker. It takes me from wakeup and exercising to breakfast with my family. Then on to the airport, a luxury hotel, a great speech, accolades about really helping people, a glass of good whisky, and a Michelin star dinner.
I read it often.
It pulls me toward it. It helps me to replace the negative thoughts and imposter syndrome when gigs aren’t flowing into my pipeline. It drives me to make the calls, write the content, and, most importantly, lends meaning to the daily work.
Laying bricks all day is hard. Building a beautiful cathedral makes it a bit less challenging. A bricklaying believer can work joyously by seeing that cathedral in every brick he lays.
Please create your perfect day and if you are inclined, share it with me, and I’ll share mine back.
