1.    Personal Responsibility Trumps All

It is never the client's fault, the product or services fault, your boss's, or your company's fault. It isn't the marketplace or the economy. It's you. Accepting that truth frees you to do what you must to be successful rather than allowing you to sit in the victim chair and wait for some grievous error, environment, or policy to be changed.

2.   Nice Guys Finish First

Two years ago, my motto was, "Be nice…people like that." I stand by it in my sales life. People do business with people they like and with people they trust. That means your internal customers too. (Admin, sales support, service and managers) It can't be a show for prospects. Sincerity and empathy win the day Integrity is essential. Not just sometimes but always. Lying, skimping, switching, or skimming always come to light.

3.   Reputations are Hard-Won and Easily Lost

Maintain your integrity above all.  Responsiveness matters Be early. On-time is ten minutes late in my world. Call back within 24 hours max.

4.   Respond Even When You Don’t Have a Resolution

Just let them know you are on it. Never have a voice mail too full to accept a new message and never duck a problem.  Take it personally. Lots of sales trainers advise you "Don't take it personally. They're rejecting your product or service, not rejecting you!"  Nonsense. I am the difference in my product or service offering. In a world where one can practically point and click to buy almost anything, what's the difference between your product and the hordes of easily accessible (and often less expensive) products in the market?

5.   The Answer is…YOU

Sales is fiercely personal.  Learn to manage rejection; don't deny it.  My new coaching/mastermind group is forming right now. If you think you can benefit from this kind of thinking in a group of 6 or so like-minded people, email me and set up a time to talk.
