#945 I've Been Beat

I’ve been beat. I’ve been lied to. I’ve been fooled, taken advantage of, and had my trust abused…and it’s going to happen again; no doubt about it.

I’d rather trust and get burned than hold people at arm’s length, expecting baseness. You know the phrase, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, right? Trust in humanity is like that, in a way. It’s going in expecting the best in people rather than looking for the noxious bits (and we all have them) and focusing on those to define people.

The great secret of charismatic communicators is that they know you get what you’re looking for and that the more you emphasize what you find, the more of it you’re going to get and, yes, they get burned along the way and, yes, it’s worth it.

To get the best out of humanity, you’ve got to look for the best in humanity.
